What if the electrical panel is outside?
I’ve watched a lot of videos and nobody addresses this issue. Everytime I see a transfer switch or home panel solar set up mounted next to an electrical panel, it always shows it inside a garage or utility room. What do people do who have their electrical panel mounted on the outside of the house? Do they just mount the transfer switch or home panel outside next to it and leave their solar “generator” outside next to it?
Hi Deborah, In most cases it usually depends on the location of the meter. The reason the AC disconnect and combiner are installed outside is because most jurisdictions require them to be within 6ft of the meter. Since your main service panel is outside, it would be important to know if that is attached to the meter box or off to the side of it. Either way, you need to design your electrical placement in accordance with local requirements. I hope that helps.
Yep, the electrical meter is off to the side of the panel box, a few inches apart from it. What you said makes sense and sounds like plugging any future purchase of something like my dream of a Bluetti AC500 into a manual transfer switch will be either through a window (interesting) or with the AC500 sitting outside (not desirable).
